Paris-Area Shooting Investigated as Suspected Terrorist Attack

One person was killed and at least four others injured when a gunman allegedly fired from a vehicle at people in Trappes and nearby La Verrière, west of Paris. The injured included a 12-year-old girl, and the 38-year-old suspect was arrested in nearby Coignières. French anti-terrorism prosecutors opened an investigation, including examining whether the attack was motivated by victims’ actual or perceived racial, ethnic, national or religious identity. Authorities said the motive remains unclear, while local officials described the gunfire as apparently random and warned the casualty toll could change. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said security forces and judicial authorities were fully mobilized.
