Delhi HC clears OpenAI training on ANI content
The Delhi High Court ruled that OpenAI’s storage and use of ANI’s content to train ChatGPT falls under the fair-dealing exemption and does not amount to copyright infringement, with judges noting that ChatGPT’s outputs are not substantially similar to ANI’s reports and there is no demonstrated memorization or reproduction. It also refused to grant interim relief, saying such relief would cause irreparable harm and that the public interest favors allowing OpenAI to continue using ANI’s content during the suit.
