About Anthony Emmett
Major-General Anthony Emmett was a British Army officer, who served his entire career in the Royal Engineers. He fought throughout the Peninsular War, and participated in the last battles of the War of 1812. After that, he served as Commanding Royal Engineer, St Helena, during Napoleon's incarceration on the island. Emmett retired in 1855, because of injuries he had taken forty-three years earlier at the Third Siege of Badajoz.
