Columbia Council approves $995,000 purchase to bring animal shelter in-house
Columbia’s City Council approved buying the former Columbia Animal Hospital for a $995,000 animal-control facility, with the city paying upfront from reserves and Boone County expected to contribute $400,000 later. The facility will bring animal housing in-house as the Central Missouri Humane Society’s service contract runs through 2027; the city plans to seek new providers for 2028.
