Phillies Designate Garrett Stubbs for Assignment
The Phillies designated backup catcher Garrett Stubbs for assignment, giving them a week to trade him or place him on waivers; if he clears, he plans to pursue free agency. The move comes as Philadelphia seeks more offense from its backup catcher and plans to reduce J.T. Realmuto’s workload, ending Stubbs’ run with the team despite his leadership and clubhouse contributions.
