About Joshua Atherton
Joshua Atherton, was an American lawyer, politician, and anti-slavery advocate who served as Attorney General of New Hampshire. A prominent Anti-Federalist during the ratification debates over the United States Constitution, he is best known for his opposition to constitutional provisions protecting the Atlantic slave trade and for his early public criticism of slavery. He served as Attorney General of New Hampshire. In later years he was also commissioner for the United States direct tax.
