About Mao
Mao is a series of silkscreen portraits by American artist Andy Warhol, created between 1972 and 1973. The works depict Mao Tse-tung, the leader of the Chinese Communist Party, whose image Warhol transformed from a political symbol into a subject of mass-media-inspired repetition and celebrity imagery.
