India’s NPCI is building a registry under its Unified Agentic Protocol to verify and monitor AI agents carrying out payments on the UPI network, starting with small, frequent transactions and potentially expanding to cards and bill payments. The system will assign unique IDs, track authorizations and limits, and enable banks to revoke an agent’s privileges to mitigate fraud and ensure accountability amid regulatory considerations.
