About Richard Cheslyn
Richard Cheslyn was an English amateur cricketer who played from 1825 to 1846. He was mainly associated with Sussex and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), of which he was a member. He made 10 known appearances in important matches including one for Sussex in the second of the roundarm trial matches in 1827. Although Cheslyn's main concern was maintaining his status and lifestyle, despite his increasing inability to finance either up until 1844,...Cheslyn was an important actor in the transition from a game dominated by gentlemen whose chief interest was match stakes and gambling to a national pastime imbued by the amateur ideal.
