About Rinaldo d'Este
Rinaldo d'Este was Duke of Modena and Reggio from 1694 until his death, as well as a member of the House of Este. He attempted to expand his holdings by siding with the Holy Roman Empire during the War of the Spanish Succession and the War of the Polish Succession, though his gains only consisted of the Duchy of Mirandola and the county of Novellara and Bagnolo. Rinaldo married his oldest son Francesco to the regent of France's daughter in an attempt to improve diplomatic relations with France. He died in 1737 and was succeeded by his son, Francesco.
