About Roman Catholic High School
The Roman Catholic High School of Philadelphia is a four-year private, Catholic, college-preparatory school for boys at the corner of Broad and Vine Streets in Center City, Philadelphia. Established through the bequest of merchant Thomas E. Cahill and opened in 1890, it is generally described as the first free Catholic diocesan high school in the United States, and its founding initiated the diocesan high school system that became a model for Catholic secondary education nationally. The school operates under the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Office of Catholic Education, competes in the Philadelphia Catholic League as the Cahillites, and its 1890 main building is listed on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places.
