The LPGA is launching the Nanea Cup, a $4 million event mixing tour pros and top college players, to be held March 11-14 at Nanea Golf Club in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The field will comprise 95 LPGA players and 25 collegiate golfers from Stanford, UCLA, Arkansas, Texas and Texas A&M, with the format featuring an all-play two rounds before a cut to the low 50 and ties, and a Saturday session to determine a team champion for the college participants. The Golf Channel will feature coverage focused on college athletes and coaches, highlighting the next generation of players. Nanea Golf Club, opened in 2003, is a David McLay Kidd design on volcanic rock and native grasses, marking the first professional event at the course which also hosts the annual Nanea Invitational. LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler described the event as meeting several strategic goals for routing, courses and purses, and as a showcase for Hawaii as a natural stop on the tour’s West Coast swing. The initiative underscores a broader push to blend professional and collegiate competition while spotlighting a celebrated venue and the sport’s future talent.
