Sixty? No, 59 kids aged 8 to 18 began the 33rd annual summer camp for young burn survivors with a kick-off at McLeod Athletic Park, hosted by Township of Langley Firefighters IAFF Local 4550. The BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund organizes the camp, welcoming campers, families, volunteers, firefighters, and medical staff to opening ceremonies, food, and games. Ten former campers returned as junior counselors, underscoring a transfer of resilience from past participants to current campers. Local 4550 president Jordan Sparrow called hosting the opening event an honor and highlighted the camp’s goal of sending the kids away for a week of support and empowerment. The Langley kickoff sets the stage for the week-long camp, which will also involve participants from across B.C. and the Yukon traveling to Squamish.
