Vishal Thennarasu Kayalvizhi, 22, is set for his Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow after a historic season in which he became the first Indian man to break the 45-second barrier in the 400m, clocking 44.98 to set the national record. A four-time national champion, he has emerged as one of Asia’s leading quarter-milers and played a pivotal role in India’s relay medals at the Asian Athletics Championships, including gold in the mixed 4x400m and silver in the men’s 4x400m. He is ranked among the world’s top 60 in the 400m and is viewed as one of India’s primary sprint medal hopefuls as the country’s on-lap running resurgence continues. Vishal credits the Inspire Institute of Sport and his coaching team for his elite preparation, stressing a winning mindset, discipline, and not setting limits while representing India motivates him to give his all.
