Giants Remove Nine Players for Injured-List Returns

The San Francisco Giants removed nine players from their 40-man roster to make room for players returning from the 60-day injured list after using a record-tying 71 players during the season. Five players—José Buttó, Duncan Davitt, Brett Harris, Shay Whitcomb and Zach Morgan—were claimed by other teams. The Giants outrighted pitchers Joel Kuhnel and Seth Lonsway to Triple-A Sacramento, released Tristan Beck and designated Reiver Sanmartín for assignment. Buttò’s departure was notable because he had been viewed as a possible bullpen option after recovering from season-ending surgery.
