Google plans to invest $15 billion in Malaysia in 2027 and 2028, expanding its existing data center campus in Selangor and developing new campuses in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. The company says construction is expected to support more than 37,000 local jobs annually and contribute an average of $1.1 billion a year to Malaysia’s GDP; once operating, the facilities are projected to sustain more than 9,000 jobs annually, with wages averaging 45% above the national median. The plan also includes adding more than 1 gigawatt of clean energy capacity to the national grid, measures to support local water security, and programs intended to train about 800,000 Malaysians by 2031. The investment builds on Google’s earlier commitment to Malaysia as the country attracts data center development to meet growing demand for AI and other digital services.

Whose framing of this story rings truest to you?
,000 people getting training is a big number. I wonder how many will actually land roles at Google or similar firms.
Clean energy commitments sound good but I hope they stick to them once the centers are running full time.
This investment should help Malaysia's economy grow and give many people steady work during construction.
