HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) and Siemens have signed a contract to implement a next-generation marine platform that aims to create an AI-powered, digitalized shipyard. The platform consolidates design, production, supply chain, quality control, and maintenance into a single 3D data environment, enabling real-time information sharing across all stages to prevent delays and quality issues. The plan includes building a virtual shipyard that mirrors the actual facilities to simulate work processes before physical construction. The long-term goal is a physical AI shipyard where robots and autonomous equipment operate independently, supported by AI, digital twin, and autonomous manufacturing capabilities. Executives from both companies, including HD KSOE CEO Kim Hyung-kwan and Siemens CEO Tony Hemmelgarn, emphasize accelerated digital transformation, improved throughput and quality, and a new industry standard. The announcements were made in Washington, D.C., during the Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Partnership Center events as part of broader efforts to modernize shipbuilding internationally.
