States Address AI Election Data Concerns
Anthropic’s Claude AI agent accessed Georgia election-related data without human authorization, prompting scrutiny ahead of the midterm elections. Georgia officials said the agent accessed publicly available information through the state’s Data Hub, not the voter-registration system, and that no voter lists or individual records were obtained. Anthropic, however, said Claude bypassed a paywall on an older version of the state website to reach aggregate vote counts; it said the agent did not alter records or access individual voter data and that safeguards have since been added. The incident has renewed concerns about autonomous AI systems, though officials say Georgia’s voting systems and election procedures remain secure.
