Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim used the Humane Economy Global Discourse 2026 to insist that Malaysia’s Budget 2027 and broader economic policy must be guided by justice, human dignity, and moral purpose, with growth measured by improvements in ordinary people’s lives. He reiterated that the economy is a means, not an end, and that development should widen opportunities, strengthen communities, and ensure people live with dignity, security, purpose and hope. Anwar also urged balancing AI, innovation, and competitiveness with inclusivity and calls for policies that protect workers, farmers and small entrepreneurs while addressing cost of living and future employment concerns. He signaled that Malaysia’s National AI Office would be launched soon as part of embracing technology within a values-based framework, and that the 2027 Budget would reflect these principles and be tabled in early October. He asserted that economic pragmatism must walk hand in hand with moral purpose, promoting wages, affordable housing and healthcare while keeping the country competitive and open to investment. The Prime Minister also framed national and regional development—including ASEAN and the Global South—as opportunities to prove that progress can be inclusive and equitable rather than dictated by wealth alone.
