CS PowerTech Inc., a Canadian Solar subsidiary, has opened the first phase of a photovoltaic cell manufacturing facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana, at the River Ridge Commerce Center, designed to produce heterojunction bifacial N-type solar cells and ramping to more than 6 gigawatts-peak annually. The Jeffersonville plant, which began trial production in April 2026 with 2.1 GW nameplate capacity, is the first US facility of its kind and is intended to strengthen domestic solar manufacturing and the North American supply chain, complementing CS PowerTech’s Mesquite, Texas module plant. The project is expected to create about 1,200 high-skilled jobs and represent nearly $1 billion in local investment, with expansion plans for a second phase by year’s end. Company executives said the facility will deliver high-efficiency, next-generation solar cells to improve energy yield and support domestic advanced manufacturing and grid reliability. The effort aligns with broader national goals to bolster energy security and manufacturing resilience by expanding domestic-capacity solar production.
