Nvidia Invests in Naver, Expands AI Data Centers
Nvidia is investing $1 billion to acquire about 7.24 million new Naver shares, amounting to a 4.5% stake and signaling a deeper partnership to build large-scale AI data-center infrastructure in South Korea. The funding will help triple Naver’s GAK Sejong facility capacity from 55 MW to 200 MW by 2028, supported by Nvidia’s DSX platform, with Brookfield potentially providing up to $9 billion in project financing and Nvidia coordinating with SK Group on more than 2 GW of capacity. The deal accompanies Naver’s broader strategy, including the pending $10.3 billion acquisition of Dunamu, the operator of Upbit, which would expand Naver into crypto-trading infrastructure powered by Nvidia-enabled AI. Following the deal, Nvidia is expected to become Naver’s third-largest shareholder after the National Pension Service and BlackRock. The partnership aligns with a wider push into AI factories and distributed compute across Korea, attracting investor enthusiasm and signaling a major strategic tilt toward AI-driven data-center growth.
