Schmidt's reported 1% Anthropic stake could yield windfall
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt owns about 1% of Anthropic after putting tens of millions into the AI startup's 2021 Series A, when PitchBook put the company at a $461 million valuation. It is unclear whether he has sold any of the stake. Schmidt and Anthropic declined to comment or did not respond to Reuters. Reuters reported that investors at a meeting last week discussed a valuation of about $1.5 trillion, below earlier expectations of roughly $2 trillion. Bloomberg cites investors discussing a fair valuation range of $1.8 trillion to $2 trillion. Anthropic's most recent prior valuation was $965 billion. At $2 trillion, Bloomberg Wealth Index figures indicate the stake would boost Schmidt's net worth by about one-third to nearly $80 billion; at $965 billion it would add nearly $10 billion to his existing $57.5 billion fortune. Bloomberg also reports Anthropic's seven co-founders are each worth $8 billion on the last funding round. Anthropic plans to begin IPO marketing as early as the week of November 9, 2026. The eventual public valuation remains unsettled given the gap between the figures investors have discussed.
