Pitt Defeats UCF 12-7 in Defensive Battle
Pittsburgh defeated UCF 12-7 in a rain-delayed defensive battle to improve to 2-0. Damon Ferguson Jr. scored Pitt’s only offensive touchdown and had 59 rushing yards, while Mason Heintschel completed 18 of 29 passes for 212 yards. Pitt limited UCF to 20 rushing yards, recorded three sacks and eight tackles for loss, and stopped the Knights’ potential winning drive when DeMarco Ward and Jeremiah Marcelin sacked Keyone Jenkins on fourth down. UCF, which had rushed for 360 yards and seven touchdowns in its opener, managed little offensively despite Alonza Barnett III’s 186 passing yards and a late touchdown. The loss extended UCF’s road losing streak against Pitt to 10 games, and Pitt next hosts Syracuse in its first ACC game.
