Man City Found Guilty of Most Financial Breaches
An independent Premier League commission found Manchester City guilty of most of more than 100 alleged financial-rule breaches spanning 2009–10 to 2017–18, including concealing finances and using sham sponsorship arrangements to inflate revenue by more than £900 million. City denies wrongdoing and is expected to appeal; possible sanctions range from a major points deduction and relegation to expulsion, and rival clubs are reportedly considering damages claims. The appeal and any punishment could extend into next season, although football officials are pressing for a swift resolution. Separately, an analysis of payments linked to former manager Roberto Mancini alleges up to £12 million in unpaid income tax and National Insurance and calls for possible criminal investigation, without accusing specific people of an offence. The case has cast a shadow over the Premier League’s reputation and Manchester City’s achievements.
