Red Wings Suspend Dylan Larkin Without Pay

Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin has stopped reporting to the team and says he will not play for Detroit while awaiting a trade, prompting interim general manager Shawn Horcoff to suspend him without pay. Larkin’s trade request has been outstanding since the summer, and his no-trade clause—reportedly now allowing deals with 10 teams—limits Detroit’s options; Minnesota is among the interested teams. Horcoff says trade discussions are ongoing, but Detroit will reject a deal that does not serve the organization and hopes to receive players who can contribute immediately. Larkin’s $8.7 million annual cap hit through 2030-31 complicates the search, and he is forfeiting more than $41,000 a day while suspended. Horcoff says he is prepared to wait as long as necessary for a fair return.
