Gunman drove from Orlando irate over $2,500 Citibank debt, sheriff says
Jacob Pearson, 35, of Orlando drove roughly 90 miles to a Citibank campus in Tampa and opened fire after becoming angry over a court summons related to about $2,500 in debt, authorities said. He threatened an attorney's office beforehand: "Unless you want me to go over there with my AR-15, my bulletproof vest, and my insanity, you MF-ing cancel this court case." The office alerted bank security and Orlando police, who found him already gone. Pearson crashed his car through a gate into the courtyard, fatally shot 41-year-old HR employee Leanne Selman with a rifle that fired 15 times before jamming, then shot her again with a handgun as she crawled away. He entered a cafeteria appearing calm while carrying 90 rounds. Security officer and vice president of operations shot Pearson five times. Pearson was pronounced dead at a hospital. Five others were hurt. More than 360 deputies responded. Sheriff Chad Chronister said, "Because of the heroic actions of this Citibank security officer, vice president of operations, his reign of terror ended before it even began," and "Our suspect took one life, and that's one life too many." He also called the response a "phenomenal job" that kept the incident from becoming catastrophic. Pearson had no criminal record and was a married father of one. WHAT'S CONTESTED: no dispute found in record
