United Flight Returns to Las Vegas Over Security Concern
United Flight 1681, carrying 150 passengers and six crew members from Las Vegas to Newark, returned safely to Harry Reid International Airport on Oct. 24 after a flight attendant reportedly saw 25-year-old Dante Milne texting that he would hijack the aircraft and crash it into a specific row. The crew alerted the cockpit and secured the plane without confronting Milne, who reportedly did not know it was turning back; the flight landed after managing a fuel-related weight concern. Police arrested Milne, who faces a felony charge related to making threats or conveying false information about terrorism; he reportedly told investigators he had been drinking and meant the message as joking banter with a coworker. Passengers were evacuated and the aircraft inspected, with no injuries reported. The flight continued to Newark the next day, and the FAA said it would investigate.
