Two Texas Officials Face DWI Charges
Elgin ISD Superintendent Christopher Bailey was arrested early Oct. 29 after a Manor police officer reported seeing his pickup weave and travel below the speed limit on U.S. 290. Bailey was booked on a DUI/alcohol charge and later released on a $4,000 bond; according to the arrest affidavit, he told the officer he had two glasses of wine and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Bailey notified district staff and families and said he was taking responsibility, while the district said he was not on leave as of Friday. Trustees planned to discuss the matter at a board meeting, and the board president said policies were in place to ensure steady leadership. Reports conflict over whether Bailey had a prior DWI arrest: the district called those accounts a clerical error, while one report cited court records showing a 2008 Illinois charge.
