US Communities Face Recurring Boil-Water Notices
Water-supply problems across different communities reflect both long-term infrastructure and planning failures and immediate disruptions. Rio Verde Foothills, Arizona, went without its former hauled-water supply after Scottsdale shut off service in 2023, exposing the risks of allowing development without a utility responsible for providing water. In Jackson, Mississippi, aging treatment equipment, staffing shortages and failing pipes have contributed to hundreds of boil-water notices, though federally overseen repairs are underway. In Newport, Ireland, officials lifted a boil-water notice after testing found the supply safe, while warning that the system remains vulnerable to heavy rainfall until upgrades are completed. Marietta, Ohio, meanwhile, issued a temporary boil advisory for customers affected by a hydrant failure that caused water-pressure loss.
