USF Defeats Army 28-24 on Late TD

South Florida rallied from a late 10-point deficit to defeat Army 28-24 in an American Conference opener, improving to 2-0 while dropping the Black Knights to 1-1. Bulls quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more, including a 38-yard fourth-down pass to Joshua Porter with 19 seconds remaining for the winning score. Army led 14-7 at halftime and regained a late advantage behind long scoring drives, but South Florida’s defense forced a punt with less than two minutes left to set up the decisive drive. Van Buren finished 19-of-30 for 239 yards passing and added 45 rushing yards, while Army quarterback Cale Hellums totaled 146 yards and two touchdowns.
