Two Workers Rescued as Nepal Flood Toll Rises

Nepal’s flash floods and glacier-related collapse have killed at least 1,287 people and left thousands missing, including hydropower workers and foreign nationals. Rescuers pulled mechanical foreman Sanjay Sah and mechanical supervisor Kabir Maharjan alive from the Upper Trishuli 3A hydropower tunnel nine days after they became trapped; both were airlifted to hospitals in Kathmandu, with Maharjan reportedly in critical condition and Sah receiving oxygen. Their rescue followed search teams hearing voices and was the first confirmed breakthrough among several damaged hydropower projects, renewing hopes for additional survivors. Sah said he stayed behind to help colleagues escape and survived in an air pocket, while reporting that others might still be trapped. Authorities continued searches and warned of further flooding amid ongoing rain, difficult terrain and damaged communications; a British man previously reported missing was also rescued during international support operations.
