SUV Driver Faces Murder Allegations in Bus Crash

Bailee Lynn Rios, 36, of Simi Valley, was arrested and scheduled to appear in Los Angeles County Superior Court after police said her SUV traveled the wrong way on De Soto Avenue, ran a red light and struck an eastbound Los Angeles Metro Line 166 bus near Nordhoff Street in Chatsworth. The crash killed bus passengers Daniel Castillo, 46, and Gage Weida, 31, and injured six others; one passenger was ejected and another was partially ejected, while Rios was also injured. Rios faces two murder allegations and was held on bail of roughly $4 million, with prosecutors reviewing the case for formal filing and possible allegations including reckless driving and driving under the influence. Hours later, an NBC4 helicopter covering the crash crashed nearby, killing reporter Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw and pedestrian Edy Gutierrez Mejia. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the helicopter crash, whose cause has not been determined.
