First female prime minister of Morocco

King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as Morocco’s first woman head of government and tasked her with forming a cabinet after her Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) won 97 of 395 parliamentary seats. With no party holding a majority, she must negotiate a coalition; she has said PAM is open to talks, while the king retains broad powers over key policy areas. El Mansouri, a lawyer and longtime politician, has served as Marrakesh mayor and housing minister. Her government will face pressure to address youth unemployment, the cost of living and public services, while overseeing preparations for the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal. The election also drew attention for low turnout, reported at 38.08 percent, the lowest since 2007.
