Danilo I Petrović-Njegoš was the monarch of Montenegro from 1851 to 1860, ruling as the last Prince-Bishop (vladika) from 1851 to 1852 as Danilo II and as the first secular Prince from 1852 to 1860 The beginning of his reign marked the transition of Montenegro from a traditional theocratic Prince-Bishopric into a secular Principality.
