Destiny is a 1942 Austrian-German historical drama film directed by Géza von Bolváry and starring Heinrich George, Werner Hinz, and Christian Kayßler. The film was made by Wien-Film, a company set up by the Germans after they had annexed Austria in 1938. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Kurt Herlth and Werner Schlichting. The film was banned after the Second World War for its perceived Nazi content.
““Destiny,” said John. “The ghastliest word a man can speak.””
“I believe that we are given choices, places where decisions may be made to walk one road or another. We do not know what provides these choices, but we may call it destiny to give a name to that which is unknowable. Destiny offers the choices, but we choose the road.”
“If the heavens turn against me, I can do nothing.”
“Don't you know that what happens to you once always happens again? You always react in the same way to the same thing. It's no accident when you make a mess. Then you do it again. It's called destiny.”
“What, will the line stretch out to the crack of doom?”
“One country, one constitution, one destiny.”
