Elisabeth "Elisa" Charlotte Constanzia von der Recke was a Baltic German writer, poet, and memoirist. She is best known for her exposé of the occultist Alessandro Cagliostro, which made her famous across Europe and earned her the gratitude of Catherine the Great. Her writings reflect the tension between rational and mystical religious views during the late Enlightenment era.
