Gurbansoltan Niýazowa, known as Gurbansoltan Eje, was the mother of the first post-Soviet president of Turkmenistan, Saparmyrat Nyýazow ("Türkmenbaşy"). She was killed in the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake, leaving the eight-year-old Saparmyrat an orphan.
