The Hongwu era was characterized by the reconstruction of state infrastructure and the restoration of the economy after the devastation of the Yuan period, including the construction of Nanjing as a new capital and the strengthening of administrative control through detailed population and land registers. The era also emphasized social regulation, agricultural recovery, and the consolidation of centralized imperial authority.
