Irene Kantakouzene, known simply as Despotess Jerina was the wife of Serbian Despot Đurađ Branković. Her father was probably the Byzantine nobleman Theodore Kantakouzenos. In Serbian folk legends, she is the founder of many fortresses in Serbia.
