John Robin Davis Cleland Jr. was a career officer in the United States Army. A veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, he served from 1943 to 1980 and attained the rank of major general. Cleland's commands included the 8th Infantry Division, and his awards included two awards of the Army Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, four awards of the Legion of Merit, and two awards of the Purple Heart.
