Ex-Guardians Pitchers Face Trial Over Alleged Betting Fraud

Former Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz are on trial in Brooklyn, accused of accepting bribes and tipping off gamblers about pitches so they could win hundreds of thousands of dollars on in-game bets. Both have pleaded not guilty; prosecutors say Clase began sharing information in 2023 and later recruited Ortiz, while the defense is expected to argue their pitching choices were strategic.
