The Yugoslav river ferry Niš sank as the result of a freak storm at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers in Belgrade on 9 September 1952. At least 127 people were killed, but the exact number of fatalities remains unknown. It was the deadliest shipwreck in Serbia's history, either military or civilian, and the deadliest river accident in the history of Yugoslavia. It has been dubbed the "Danubian Titanic".
