Selfless

About Selfless

“How different the peace of God from that of the world! It calms the passions, preserves the purity of the conscience, is inseparable from righteousness, unites us to God and strengthens us against temptations. The peace of the soul consists in an absolute resignation to the will of God.”
— François Fénelon, as quoted in Dictionary of Burning Words of Brilliant Writers (1895), p. 446
“In all great poetry there is a kind of “kenosis” of the understanding, a self-emptying of the tongue. Here language points away from itself to something greater than itself.”
— L. P. Jacks, in "The Usurpation Of Language" (1910)
“Lord, Thou knowest what I would, — if it be Thy will that I have it — and if it be not Thy will, good Lord, be not displeased: for I will nought but as Thou wilt.”
— Julian of Norwich, in Revelations of Divine Love (c.1393), Ch. 2
“The key to self-generated happiness (the only reliable kind) is the refusal to take oneself too seriously.”
— Tom Robbins, in "The Green Man : Tom Robbins" interviewed by Gregory Daurer, in High Times (12 June 2002)
