US News 2026 rankings spotlight top high schools

U.S. News released its 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings, analyzing about 27,000 public schools with nearly 18,000 making the list, and Massachusetts leads the nation with the most top-ranked schools while New Jersey and Maryland also rank highly; the San Jose area tops metropolitan rankings.
