About United Party

The United Party was a political party in the Gambia. The party was founded during the colonial period in the-then colony of Bathurst. The party drew support mainly from Roman Catholics. In Banjul it had support mainly amongst the Wolofs, and in the rural areas mainly amongst Fulas. The party was led by former Chief Minister Pierre Sarr N'Jie, and acted as the main opposition to the People's Progressive Party from 1962 to 1975.
