South Korea's carriers launch Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses
South Korea’s three major mobile carriers SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus have begun selling Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 AI glasses, pairing device discounts with telecom rate plans. The glasses, co-developed by Meta and EssilorLuxottica, respond to 'Hey Meta' and offer a 12-megapixel camera, open-ear audio, five microphones, and up to eight hours of use on a charge (up to 48 hours with the charging case). Carriers are aiming to soften costs with installments and plan-based discounts, bringing monthly prices into roughly the 7,000 to 16,000 won range depending on the package. SK Telecom and KT have opened physical demo spaces and expanded online storefronts to showcase the device, with SK touting potential integration with its own AI services. Shinsegae I&C is distributing Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta in Korea through channels excluding Meta’s own stores, pricing Ray-Ban models at about 690,000 won and Oakley at about 900,000 won. The push reflects a broader strategy to extend AI wearables beyond smartphones and broaden domestic distribution partnerships with Meta and eyewear brands.
