France says it will participate in U.S.-mediated talks on ending the war in Ukraine in Abu Dhabi on November 10–11, and will represent the European Union’s perspective. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the French delegation’s membership and the format of Europe’s participation have not yet been announced, but insisted European interests must be considered in discussions about the continent’s future. The scheduled talks are expected to bring together Ukrainian, Russian and U.S. representatives to discuss ending the war and related security arrangements; Russia has previously resisted European participation. European and U.S. officials have also discussed the possibility of broader European involvement if the negotiations make progress.
