Magnolia tops Meralco for first Governors' Cup win
Magnolia finally snapped its winless start with a 112-98 victory over Meralco at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, moving to 1-2 in Group B. Import KJ Buffen starred with 26 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, supported by Zavier Lucero's 20 points and 11 rebounds. Ian Sangalang (16), Mark Barroca (14), Jerom Lastimosa (13), and strong depth from Magnolia’s locals helped the Hotshots pull away late. Magnolia's defense clamped down in the fourth, forcing key Meralco turnovers and powering an 11-4 run to seize control after a 99-92 lead. Meralco's Antonio Hester had 28 points and 10 rebounds, with CJ Cansino and Bong Quinto adding double-digit scoring but unable to close the gap. LA Tenorio said the win could be the momentum the Hotshots needed as they prepare for upcoming games.
