Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit will host the rescheduled Bahrain Grand Prix in October 2026, in a one-off arrangement to keep the race on the Formula 1 calendar as tensions in the Middle East persist. The event will be officially titled the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia and will take place from October 2–4, staged between Azerbaijan and Singapore on the calendar, pending final approvals. F1 chief Stefano Domenicali and FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem welcomed the move, emphasizing Sepang’s historical significance and the sport’s ability to adapt to maintain a full calendar while prioritizing safety. Mercedes pilots George Russell and Kimi Antonelli expressed enthusiasm about racing at Sepang, noting it would feel like a home race for Petronas and offering a personal connection to the track. Malaysian officials highlighted the economic boost and the enduring friendship between Malaysia and Bahrain as key outcomes of hosting the event. The arrangement keeps the season at 23 races and raises questions about the viability of remaining Middle East rounds, with replacements and calendar adjustments under consideration.
