PGA Tour Details Two-Tier System for 2028

The PGA Tour will launch a two-tier system in 2028, with a 120-player Championship Series and a concurrent 144-player Challenger Series serving as the primary route into the top tier. The bottom 30 Championship Series players will be relegated annually, while the top 20 Challenger Series finishers, players who win two Challenger events and golfers qualifying through PGA Tour University, the Korn Ferry Tour and a fall Last Chance series will have promotion routes; the Last Chance series will offer three additional cards. The 2027 season will determine much of the initial 2028 membership, including places for top performers on the FedExCup and Fall Points lists, while existing exemptions and limited medical and career-money-list protections will apply. A standardized points system will award 300 points for wins, 200 for second place and 150 for third in Championship Series events, the majors and The Players, with greater emphasis on making cuts and high finishes. The system will sharply limit crossover between the circuits and remove or reduce some traditional access routes, including sponsor exemptions; the Championship Series schedule is expected to expand from 19 announced event weeks to 24, with the full schedule due in February 2027.
